JuJu’s ‘In Trance’ is a project that’s been on my screen and in my ears of late - the album is released on Real World Records today.
JuJu are a band band formed out of many months of intensive touring in support of their previous album ‘Tell No Lies’ by guitarist Justin Adams and ritti (a single-string West African fiddle) maestro Juldeh Camara.
Justin, Juldeh, graphic designer Marc Bessant and I gathered at the end of February to photographically capture the mood of ‘In Trance’ for the cover and promotion of the release. Marc’s composite on the album cover is drawn from a set of long exposures with Justin and Juldeh moving in heavily saturated light that emerged from our experiments that day.
A few weeks down the line and I was back in The Rehearsal room a Real World Studios attempting to capture some of the same mood - I still owe Mark Aitken lunch and many thanks for his amazingly generous and enthusiastic assistance on the day.
